Grammar teaching: rationale

This document describes effective grammar teaching practice in a context with limited hours of language exposure. It suggests an approach for introducing new grammar by contrasting 'pairs of features'; explains the importance and limitations of explicit grammar explanation; presents the compelling case for practising challenging constructions in input (reading and listening) and the need to practise grammar structures across all modes and modalities, and with a varied lexicon, to establish and strengthen knowledge.
